Fierce driver rivalry, competing car makers, family conflicts, and one man’s extraordinary victory is set against the backdrop of rising German and Italian fascism.

SYNOPSIS

During the 1930s, racing's "golden age," a group of wildly colorful drivers from all over Europe thrill their countryman as they race against each other. This is a time when the skills of the driver and not the car made the difference and no racer is bolder or more unpredictable than TAZIO NUVOLARI.

All that Nuvolari has ever wanted is a worthy car to prove his true ability, but when he joins the racing team of ENZO FERRARI, he falls prey to the fame and adoration that his success brings him.

He alienates the people who love him most, his beloved wife Carolina and their two small sons. His only comfort is in racing where he can hide from his personal problems.

Everything changes when Adolph Hitler comes to power in Germany and decides that motor racing will be Germany's symbol of technological superiority. Almost overnight a new breed of racing machines are created that utterly dominate the racetracks of Europe. Nuvolari’s obsolete Alfa Romeo doesn’t stand a chance against the new German cars.

The death of a close friend and the loss of his family force Nuvolari to reevaluate what is truly important to him. He now understands what his wife had tried to tell him before -- the man matters more than any machine. He is determined to prove this not only to his family but also to the world at the upcoming German Grand Prix. With the help of Ferrari, Nuvolari does his best to prepare for the greatest fight of his life.

In front of 300,000 German racing fans and Nazi party officials, Nuvolari drives his old Alfa Romeo against the technological superiority of Hitler's cars. He uses every bit of his skill to even the odds.

In a miracle finish, Nuvolari cruises to victory in front of the furious Nazi officials. His win goes down in history as the greatest car race of all time.
